Location & Description
The primary purpose of drilling Blåmann is to detect find hydrocarbons  in sandstones of Jurassic age. The prospect consists of two segments, Blåmann West and Blåmann East.  Drilling of the well 7121/8-1 is planned in the western segment.

If a deeper oil column is detected in the main well, a sidetrack, 7121 / 8-1 A, will be drilled to detect any oil-water contact.

In case of the discovery of oil, Blåmann may be a potential tie-in candidate for Goliat.

The Goliat field
The Blåmann prospect is located close to the Goliat field.

Goliat consists of two separate main reservoirs – the Kobbe formation and the Realgrunnen group. Both contain oil with an overlying gas cap. Minor oil discoveries were also made in the Snadd and Klappmyss formations.

The Realgrunnen group lies approximately 1100m beneath the sea surface, while the Kobbe formation is at approximately 1800m depth. Both reservoirs have hydrostatic pressure  – 120 bar for the Realgrunnen and 190 bar for the Kobbe. This is an advantage in terms of well control, but presents challenges in connection with production.

The field is producing from 12 wells drilled from eight subsea templates. Pressure maintenance by means of water injection has been chosen for efficient reservoir drainage. This will also enable reinjection of produced water.

Six water injectors have been drilled, while one water injector will be drilled in 2017. Until a solution has been found for gas offtake, the produced gas will be reinjected into the reservoir. Three gas injectors have been completed.

Planned drilling
Drilling started on May 22 2017.

Previous exploration
This is the first exploration well being drilled within the licence area. Estimated duration of the drilling operation is scheduled to take 25 days. The consent also covers drilling of a possible sidetrack, with the designation 7171/8-1A, which will take 13 days.
