Statoil has completed the drilling of Blåmann. Well 7121/8-1 resulted in small gas discovery. The community did a great job.
The well encountered a 23-metre gas column in the Stø formation in sandstone with moderate reservoir quality. Preliminary estimates indicate between 2 and 3 billion standard cubic metres (Sm3) of recoverable gas.
The participants in WellBet were absolutely sure about the discovery: Almost 95% indicated that they believe in a success. Three quarters (75%) of the participants also voted for a commercial discovery – which is very likely correct as it is considered as a tie-in to the Snøhvit field.
The result may be rather disappointing in terms of volume, but the community was again quite right in the prediction. The legitimate optimism of the community could be due to the proximity of the well to the existing infrastructure and a strong EM anomaly in the prospect. Only in terms of discovered fluids, the participants were not right as a majority was hoping for oil & gas (65%) and not gas only (16%).
